Bajet Tahun 2009

Berita gembira buat 77,600 pesara

- Bernama

Retired cop found dead in hotel room

Kota Kinabalu: A police retiree was found dead in a hotel room in Gaya Street here, Friday.

The hotel manager and staff opened the door and found the body of Lanih Munsang @ Abd Wahid Hashim, 56, slumped on the bed about 9am.

The manager said they suspected something amiss after the man, from Beaufort, failed to come out from the room since Thursday.

"He checked in on Sept 8 (Monday) and even came out (to the counter) to pay for the room to extend his stay the following day," he said.

He pointed out a hotel staff saw him going out from his room on Wednesday morning to take a shower, adding that was the last time the man was seen.

Police who rushed to the scene following a distress call also found the victim's medicines and valuables in his bag.

There were no visible injury marks on the body, which has been sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for a post-mortem.

City Police Chief, ACP Ahmad Sofi Zakaria, said police did not suspect foul play and had classified the case as sudden death.

LAHAD DATU: A 41-year-old man who was waiting for his car to be washed, was attacked by three dogs here on Saturday morning.

Rahmat Mackloni was bitten on his legs during the five-minute attack and was rushed to the Lahad Datu Hospital, where he was warded briefly before being discharged.

Lahad Datu OCPD SUPT Idris Jikon  said police were investigating the case.

“We have to find out who the owners are and if we find any negligence on their part, we will not hesitate to take action, including charging them in court,” he said here yesterday.

Rahmat claimed that the dogs attacked him while he was walking towards the restroom at the carwash and two of them bit him near his knees.

“I struggled with them for at least five minutes before I could free myself,” he said, adding that he screamed for help while grabbing a chair to ward off the dogs.

Pakistanis who talk dirty to housewife in hot soup
25 October, 2004

Lahad Datu: A local woman has lodged two police reports here against two Pakistani traders who allegedly made indecent utterances towards her when her husband was not at home.

District Police Chief, SUPT Idris Jikon, said the first report was made on Oct 19 but the woman stated that she did not want an investigation to be made.

However, on Oct 23, the 33-year-old complainant lodged another report, this time requesting the police to investigate her complaints.

According to the reports, the two Pakistanis, who were known to the woman, came to her house at Kampung Singgahmata on Oct 19 at about 7.30pm and asked if her husband was home.

When they heard that the woman's husband was away, one of the Pakistani men began to make indecent utterance to her in Pakistani language, the meaning of which the complainant understood, SUPT Idris said.

Later, at about 8.50pm, the men came again and made the same enquiry about the woman’s husband, before going on the same dirty tirade at the woman's expense.

Both men then left the house without doing anything further to the woman, Idris said.

Police are now looking for the two Pakistanis for suspected indecency and outraging modesty, Idris said.

Tsunami fear sparks evacuation

23 Jan 2007

KOTA KINABALU: It is better to be safe than sorry. And that was the feeling of most of the 3,000 residents who fled their homes on Sunday night after a tsunami alert was raised. Villagers in coastal areas of Tawau, Lahad Datu and Sandakan started fleeing at 9pm although no official warning from the police was given to them to evacuate their homes. They had heard about a 7.3 magnitude earthquake in the Molucca Sea, some 970km southeast of Tawau.Although there was no tsunami and they had had some anxious moments, they were not complaining.Tawau district police chief assistant commissioner Idris Jikon said the villagers made their way back home about four hours later.

"Some people had brought pillows and mattresses with them although they should have just left everything behind and locked their doors in case of theft.

"We did not ask them to evacuate. They themselves made the decision to leave their homes," he said.

Pusher Shot Dead

A 38-year-old drug pusher high on the police list was shot dead at Kampung Kurnia Jaya, early Tuesday, when he attempted to attack a police party with a parang.  The local Bajau identified as Marjindal Kaludin had just been released from prison early this month, after being convicted for two drug offences. District police chief ACP Idris Jikon said the incident took place at 5am, when the police raid was conducted on his house, following a tip-off. On arrival at the scene, the police noted the suspect was still inside the house before jumping out of the window onto a waiting boat below. Two police personnel were already waiting for him by the boat, ordering him to surrender. Instead he rushed at one of them and tried slashing him with the parang. The police retaliated in self-defence by shooting him on the left waist, causing him to fall into the water where he disappeared, Idris said. The suspect's body was found floating some 100 metres from the scene at 7am the following day. According to Idris, the case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for shooting in self-defence. Meanwhile, a security guard and a hospital worker have been detained for having allegedly attempted to rob a 24-hour fuel kiosk with a toy gun at 1.20am on Tuesday.
